Final registers of electors for LegCo elections published

The final registers of electors for the 2000 Election Committee subsector elections and the Legislative Council general election are published today (May 25).

The final register for geographical constituencies contains the names and home addresses of 3,055,378 electors who may vote on September 10 to elect 24 Legislative Council members, a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office said.

The size of the electorate increases by 222,854 or 7.9 per cent as compared with 2,832,524 in 1999, the spokesman said.

The distribution of electors in the five geographical constituencies is:

The Registration and Electoral Office has updated the records of 328,063 electors during the latest exercise to compile the register.

The final register for the 28 functional constituencies shows that 174,183 electors, including 13,696 authorised representatives of corporate electors, may vote in September to return 30 Legislative Council members.

As for the 35 Election Committee subsectors, 177,536 voters, including 14,148 authorised representatives of corporate voters, are entitled to vote in the subsector elections on July 9 to elect 664 Election Committee members. The Election Committee members will then elect six Legislative Council members in September.

The final register for the geographical constituencies is available for public inspection at:

* the Registration and Electoral Office, 10th floor, Harbour Centre, 25 Harbour Road, Wan Chai; and

* 18 District Offices (that section of the register relevant to the district).

The final registers for the functional constituencies and the Election Committee subsectors are placed at:

* The Registration and Electoral Office, 10th floor, Harbour Centre, 25 Harbour Road, Wan Chai; and 10th floor, Guardian House, 32 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai; and

* Five District Offices in Central and Western, Yau Tsim Mong, Kwun Tong, Sha Tin and Tsuen Wan.

Registered electors may call the hotline, 2891 1001, to check their registration particulars. Each registered elector will be allocated to a polling station on the basis of their registered home address.
