6 LegCo members will be returned by the Election Committee (EC).

Composition of the EC



The EC has 800 members, all of whom are HKSAR permanent residents.
They come from four sectors, each with 200 members, namely:

(i) Industrial, commercial and financial sectors
(ii) The professions
(iii) Labour, social services, religious and other sectors
(iv) Members of the LegCo, representatives of district-based organisations, Hong Kong deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC), and representatives of Hong Kong members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).


The majority of the 800 EC members were returned by sub-sector elections on 9 July 2000, with the exception of the ex officio members (LegCo members and Hong Kong deputies to the NPC), and nominees from the religious sub-sector.

Members of the LegCo, representatives of district-based organisations, HK deputies to NPC and representatives of HK members of the National Committee of the CPPCC. The 800 EC Members will vote to elect 6 LegCo members on 10 September

Voting system

The block vote system will be used for the election of 6 LegCo members by the EC.
   

Each EC member is required to choose 6 candidates, no more and no less, by shading in black the ovals against the names of the 6 candidates of his/her choice with a pen provided by polling staff.
   
The election result will be determined by "first past the post" system.
