North
District Council by-election set for July 23
A by-election for the Fung Tsui constituency of the North
District Council will be held on July 23 (Sunday), the Government
Gazette announced today (May 19).
The by-election is to be conducted after the Court of First
Instance ruled on May 4 that the incumbent District Council
member of the Fung Tsui constituency was not duly elected
in the election on November 28, 1999.
The nomination period will run from May 31 to June 13, a spokesman
for the Registration and Electoral Office said.
"Any registered electors aged 21 or above who have ordinarily
lived in Hong Kong for the three years immediately before
the nomination may contest the by-election," he said.
Nominees must hand in their nomination form in person to the
Returning Officer at the North District Office, 3rd floor,
North District Government Offices, 3 Pik Fung Road, Fanling,
during office hours within the nomination period.
Each nomination must be subscribed by at least 10 registered
electors in the constituency and a deposit in the sum of $3,000
must be paid. Each elector is entitled to subscribe to only
one nomination.
Nomination forms are available at the North District Office,
and the Registration and Electoral Office on the 10th floor
of Harbour Centre, 25 Harbour Road, Wan Chai.
